The Story

This tote bag tells the story of Whisker Jack, my tough sailor cat, serving aboard the USS Skullfin submarine—a mix of naval grit, imagination, and hand-painted craft.

Whisker Jack Sailor Cat Tote Bag -REMAKE©- is fully hand-painted. The fabric comes from a vintage German military duffle bag, carrying its own history with signs of wear and stains that add character.

1. Repurposed from a thick vintage German military duffle bag canvas.

2. Handle repurposed from a vintage leather belt (treated with olive oil and beeswax for maximum comfort).

3. Inside pocket repurposed from the duffle bag’s inner separator.

4. Fully hand-painted design of Whisker Jack Sailor Cat with vintage patina.

5. Custom stencil design with hand-painted name and skull insignia.

6. Distressed using paint and sandpaper.

7. Intentional distressing and imperfections for an authentic look.

8. Handmade and painted trench art submarine pendant, crafted in air-dry clay.

9. Handmade and painted submarine pendant “BALLAST” valve tag, crafted in polymer clay.

Hand Hand-Painted Story Labels

Whisker Jack Sailor Cat Tote Bag, USS Skullfin Tote Bag has its unique label tag from l’Atelier. The tag is numbered with the bag’s unique serial number and has a red wax handmade quality control seal. On the back of the label tag are two other stapled tags: one for the -REMAKE©- list and one for measurements.

Hand Painted Packaging

Packaging is the last and most important part of the design process. Since all my items are hand-painted, applying the same method to their packaging is natural.
I spray painted the 88th Company logo on a beautiful large brown bag on a custom stencil. After inserting the custom item inside the bag, it is folded and closed with a vintage twine string. Finally, like a top-secret letter, the string knot is sealed with a custom wax seal.
