Hey Sailors,
As promised last week, I will discuss logo design and branding in this post. Since the beginning of 88th Company, I’ve always liked to have different logo variations for each theme. I learned this from my idol Ralph Lauren. Double RL has hundreds of logos to accompany each theme or collection. Here are a few examples:
The Theme of The New Logo Variation
I’ve always been fascinated by Native American culture. If you don’t know it already, Native American influence is deeply anchored into Americana fashion. From turquoise jewelry to beautiful geometric designs applied to various clothing, it’s everywhere! In my book, Native American designs are gorgeous classics! They never go out of style!
My early Native American influence came from all the classic Western movies, Back from the Future 3, Dances with the Wolves, Yakari, Tintin, Asterix & Obelix, Street Fighter 2, Windtalkers, and much more! But later in college, I studied in depth about Native American art and history and I enjoyed it even more! So, it felt only natural to celebrate Native American heritage on a unique canvas. I will speak more about the bag in a detailed dedicated post.
For each of my projects, I try to push the boundaries and add something new, something better and unexpected. For this beautiful bag, I decided to change my classic coding stencil label into a stencil logo variation.
In the past, I have designed some really beautiful hand-inked badge designs for t-shirts. Here’s one example that inspired me most for this stencil:
Stencil Making Tips
When designing a stencil, the design must be simpler and have no closed loops. Here’s an example:
As a digital designer, I always start to flush out some ideas on Adobe Illustrator. After an hour, I came out with this (logo) stencil label design. (Notice that I have no closed loops anywhere on the design):
I transferred the new logo stencil on the Silhouette Cameo cutting machine and started the painting process:
Paint used: Speedball screen printing paint.
The result is perfect for this very special bag! 🤌🏻🤌🏻🤌🏻🤌🏻
The New Logo Variation
The stencil gave me the idea to create a new 88th Company logo variant:
I enjoyed making this logo variant! I love using ink and will always use it in my work!
